Department of Mining Engineering, Indian School of Mines University (ISM) was commenced by βThe Vice Roy Lord Erwin on 9th. December, 1926β for imparting an value based education in the field of mining. The university gets university status under the UGC Act in 1967. From 1996-97 the School came directly under the umbrella of HRD, Government of India. The objective of the Department is to prepare fresh and dynamic under graduates and Post β graduates for the mining domain. The department maintain fruitful relationship with other universities and institutions and keeps invites experts from the industry for providing knowledge and experience of the industry.

Department of Mining Engineering Indian School of Mines University (ISMU) is located in the heart of the country's prime coking coal belt at Dhanbad (Jharkhand), 260 Km away from Kolkata on Howrah-New Delhi Grand Chord Railway route. Department has a well constructed campus which is surrounded by the greenery, flowerbeds etc. Department imparts well architect edifice which comprises trendy classrooms, laboratories, computer labs, medical and sports facilities, separate hostel for both boys and girls. The objective of the infrastructure amenities is to provide optimum learning atmosphere for the learners.
Classroom
College has well kit out air conditioned classy lecture halls for the learners. The lecture halls of the classroom are fully fit out necessary apparatus like as audio systems, Overhead Projects, LCD projectors, DVD players and television sets. The seating contours are specially designed for comfort, which is necessary for concentrated study. They are designed to provide students with complete comfort for the intense hours of classrooms teaching and interaction.
Laboratory
Department of Mining Engineering (ISMU) imparts well equipped laboratories for the learners. A 30 M long wall-training gallery is available at the Mining Engineering department along with other facilities.
