Department of Foreign Languages is a part of Banaras Hindu University. The Department of Foreign Languages has the distinction of conducting different programmes in seven major languages of Asia and Europe namely Chinese, Japanese, Sinhalese, Russian, Italian, Spanish and Polish.

A department helping students with global opportunities

This department offers honours courses in various foreign languages like French, German, Chinese, etc. and vocational too. With availability of professors trained in renowned institutions of the country this department inspite of facing lack of some high-tech resources manages to make it's students able to learn languages in a good way and lift them up to global exposure.

A completely different picture of such a highly acclaimed university

BHU is a Central University providing the best facilities to students. The University has an enormous campus with the traditionally built buildings. We have a large number of grounds and auditoriums for the students of each faculty. For health related issues we have a personalised Health Centre for students and a hospital too. The Vishwanath Temple is located in the middle of the campus and is a host to the students with many canteens and food stalls. The campus has scenic beauty. The University has gained national acclaim owing to the IIT and IMS inside the campus, however, the situation of other faculties is degrading with every passing month. For an instance, my faculty, The Faculty of Arts has a very pathetic situation, the crowd is poor and the facilities are also of the long gone age. Ours is the only faculty which is NOT co-ed. The campus is not WiFi enabled. The management and administration are the weakest points of the university. Nothing is ever on time. Exams get unnecessarily stretched up to two months, the classes start after about 20-30 days of the official date. The office management is also poorly cooperative. Spare a few and the teaching faculty is very careless regarding the students and the classes. Placements are poor (quite contrary to the image that BHU holds). I received a completely different picture of the University which I had high expectations from. It's extremely difficult to adjust with the crowd if you're not a regional person (from East UP and Bihar). It's been two years that I have been in this college and my experience has not been good. I do not wish to portray a negative impression of the University as a whole but I would suggest candidates inspect intensively before taking admission here.
