The Aligarh Muslim University - Department of Botany (life Science) is approved by UGC. Department offers Master of Philosophy, Doctor of philosophy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science courses.This is one of the oldest departments in the university. It was established as an independent department in 1923, with research being started in 1935. The main thrust areas of teaching and research are Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Cytogenetic & Plant Breeding, Environmental Botany, Plant Biotechnology, Systematic Botany and Allelopathy. Presently teaching activities include undergraduate and post-graduate semester courses and M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs. The department has made a steady progress in all these areas.
