University Grants Commission to Offer Post Graduate Merit Scholarship for PG Programmes 2012-14

About UGC PG Merit Scholarship:

The Post Graduate Merit Scholarship by UGC will be offered to students holding ranks at graduation level. The scholarship is being bestowed with an aim to motivate students to pursue higher education. The scholarship will be tenable for a period of two years with a value of Rs 2000 (10 months in a year) for two years.


Rank certificates to the toppers of university in B.A, B.Sc and B.Com will be issued by university/degree awarding institutions. A student getting the scholarship under this scheme can pursue his/her Master’s degree in any area of specialization in any institution of higher learning in India.

Eligibility to apply for UGC PG Merit Scholarship:

• The first and second rank holders at UG level and admitted in any non-professional postgraduate course would be awarded the scholarship.
• The undergraduate courses that will be identified for the scholarship are Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce and Languages.
• A candidate is required to have a minimum aggregate of 60% at undergraduate level.
• The rank holders would be considered only from affiliated universities where in at least 100 students and in deemed / private Universities / Autonomous / Nonaffiliated colleges, at least 25 students have appeared in the examination at undergraduate level in the aforesaid programmes.
• The scheme is only for regular students. Any student pursuing graduation from an Open University or distance learning is not eligible for the scholarship.
• Students beyond the age of 30 years cannot apply for the scholarship.

• If a candidate is already registered then he/she can check status by entering your registration ID and date of birth.

Important date for UGC PG Merit Scholarship:

The last date of online submission is 3rd October, 2012.
