There are times in life when we board the rickety guilt trip bus and go on a grouse filled voyage. A little more effort there, a little more effort here, a little more research there – the list is never ending.
Here are some glimpses of my walk down the guilt trail:
1. Exam preparation: Now this one is common to all. Agar thoda aur padha hota, classes mein soyi na hoti, TV ko tyag dia hota, 2% aur aajate, fir wo college mil jata, fir mummy sath wali aunty ke samne brag karti, fir muje iPhone mil sakta tha, STOP. Just stop it brain!
2. Stream choice: Ended up doing science even though gravity and force put you in a dizzy? Wanted to study Humanities but settled for Commerce because apparently Humanities is for below average kids? It may be peer pressure, parental pressure or just the lack of courage to defy conventions, this bag of regrets will weigh heavily on your shoulders throughout your life.
3. Not acquiring a hobby: When you go to college and see people playing the guitar, with a bunch of kids humming along and others making a beeline to hear them, you might mentally slap yourself for not acquiring a hobby. And no, there are no societies for experts in speed texting and sarcasm.
4. Not reading enough: The sad moment when you realize that the only reading you’ve been doing for the past two years apart from your textbooks comprises of Facebook statuses and notes. You, my friend, need to go and pick up a good novel.
5. Labelling people at school: The nerds. The jocks. The loners. Separate groups with boundaries you never bothered to cross. Now that you bump into them in public places, I am sure you get the lurking feeling that with a little more effort, you could have been friends with them.
