Tezpur University and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Chennai organises Colloquium on Women’s Movement in North-East India

Tezpur University and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Chennai had organised colloquium on Women’s Movement in Northeast India between March 26 and March 27, 2012 at Tezpur University.

The aim of this colloquium was to enlighten and understand what has been and what remains unseen or unheard in women’s issues. It also aimed to acknowledge the effort, struggles and contributions of women mobilisations for developing the region to its full capacity without fear but with dignity, and recognizing women as important, meaningful builders of the society.

Objectives of the Colloquium:

• To enlighten, understand and provide insight into the purpose, meaning, and significance of the women’s movement which was instrumental in shouldering and promoting justice and peace.
• To celebrate the spirit, achievements and strengths of non - violent struggle which the women’s movement embodied and unraveling its roles, risks, gaps and challenges.
• To strengthen existing networks to subsist even beyond individuals, groups, boundaries, for a social cause through grassroots mobilisation and even more.
• To encourage collective reasoning and discourse, and document shared experiences, histories, opportunities seeking to draw meaning for all people: activists, academicians, researchers, NGOs, leaders, students, community, and the like.
