The Delhi University admission process in full swing has been somewhat interrupted in a few select colleges. A letter from the Directorate of Higher Education addressed to the 9 colleges that are either fully (100%) or partially (5%) funded by the government dated July 3rd, 2015 says, "This department is in receipt of information that your college is carrying out teachers/principals appointment. Therefore, it is once again reminded that no regular appointment should be made till the final formation of governing bodies". The Delhi government has instructed the colleges to abort their recruitment process until full-fledged governing bodies, which are to include government-nominated members, were incorporated in the system. The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has decided to nominate 5 out of the 15 governing body members in each college's committee. While Delhi government extends full funding to 12 colleges, the remaining 16 get five per cent funding.

DU’s apex committee had gone ahead and appointed full-time principals for 9 colleges that the government is currently funding, despite the government’s directive.

The AAP government had frozen regular appointments in the following colleges in April, 2015 as they were all operating with "truncated" governing bodies.

The colleges operating with unapproved committees include:

In a reaction to AAP’s directive, the Teacher’s body, Academics for Action and Development has termed this move as a "gross interference in the governance of the college."

So, there is no respite for these University of Delhi colleges, still dealing with students & wards with regards to the sky-rocketing cut-offs, now have an additional situation to deal with. It is not clear if the Delhi Government will close the Governing Bodies for the colleges soon or not. Whether this will affect the admission process and the subsequent routine of class and curriculum or not, is a fact that we are yet to see.

In the event of such uncertainty, what do the students do? Where do they go? Is it not enough that they are anyways hassled with the admission of their kids? Now due to delay from the Delhi government, who knows what’s in store for them? Because, ultimately, it is the students, who pay the price!
