Women’s Studies Centre of Maharshi Dayanad University conducted a national seminar on February 7-8, 2014.
Theme of the seminar was ‘Gender Inequality and violence against Women in North-West India’.
The phenomenal issue regarding violence against women has been increasing day by day. Rape, eve-teasing, acid attacks, abduction, women trafficking, dowry torture, molestation, sexual harassment at workplace, foeticide, child marriage etc are so frequently being occurred. Despite constitutional provisions and amendments, violence is still there. Keep these all in mind this seminar was meant to create awareness about all the violence and gender inequality.
Following were the sub themes on which research papers were invited from the scholars:
• Gender Inequality and Women’s Status
• Domestic violence and violence outside home
• Female foeticide: Violence in the womb
• Sexual harassment at workplace
• Implication of violence on Women
• Legal Provisions/Support Systems to protect women
In today’s scenario these types of seminar will definitely help in creating awareness and make them more conscious about their rights. Women are essential part of human society and the importance can’t be denied. They should well and equally treated.
Many social organizations, NGOs have taken the concept very seriously as the violence has been increasing day by day. Woman is not safe even at her own place. Many organizations come up with women safety training programme where they train them how to protect and react in an awkward situation.
Women should get proper education so that they can realize their rights as second social being. Today woman is equal to man. They can do whatever they want and even mentally stronger than a man. So, no one has the right to deny her importance and indulge in violence against her is a crime which should be strictly and legally punishable. Respect her and lead a better society.
