The public lecture series introduced by the National Knowledge Network (NKN) was launched in Delhi University where 500 institutions of higher learning in the country were shown linked through a one-way link. DU administration claims that over 2 lakh people attended the inaugural lecture.
Also, 11 institutions across India were linked through a two-way interactive mode with around 1,200 strong audiences present at the Vice Regal Lodge, to hear adviser to the PM, Sam Pitroda and Professor Michael Sandel of Harvard University speak. Some of these institutes were:
- IIT-Mumbai
- IIT-Guwahati
- IIM-Calcutta
- IISc-Bangalore
- Shivaji University at Kolhapur
- University of Pune
- Gujarat Vidyapeeth
While Piroda and Sandel spoke about ‘Democratising information, justice, equality and the rule of law’, vice chancellor Dinesh Singh introduced the lectures and emphasized how the NKN “provides a huge potential for sharing knowledge and learning resources and can knit the country together”.
