Massive strike held by the students of Sharda University against mis-management and mal practices

Corruption is everywhere in India. Starting from the political parties to education system, it sucks a big time. Education is a fundamental human right and a major driver of human and economic development. We can’t deny the existence of corruption in Indian educational system. Since education typically comprises 20-30 per cent of a country’s budget, it is critically prone to corruption, from national education ministries to local schools and universities. To fight back against corruption various anti-corruption resolutions were made but of no use. A similar kind of initiative was taken by the students at Sharda University to keep an eye on management system of Sharda.

The students of Sharda University held a massive strike on April 11, 2013 to protest against the mis-management and mal practices. The strike was due to mislead the students by the management basically related to grade cards. At the time of admission it was written in the brochure of Sharda University that the grade on each subject will awarded on the basis of aggregate marks (i.e. a sum of continuous assessment + midterm + end term), but now when they provided mark sheet to the students of 3rd year and 4th year, the grade was on individual basis. It means 4 grades for every subject - 1 grade for continuous assessment, 1 grade for midterm, 1 for end term and 1 for the aggregate of the subject.
The problem is that if any one scored below 40% in any of the three criteria, he/she will get a "F" grade even if they have scored more than 60 marks in that subject. And the “F” grade will remain as it is in the grade card. It’s again against of UGC guideline that an university is changing its rules in mid of its academic session. Focused on it, the students came to the street with their demands. Let’s see how the management will react to this initiative taken by the students.
