Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Replaces Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET)

Students seeking admission in Engineering and Pharmacy in Gujarat colleges will now need to clear Joint Entrance Main Exam (JEE - Main) as Gujarat Common Entrance Test has been scrapped.

Why GUJCET was Eliminated

GUJCET was eliminated as students had to give three separte exams - GUJCET, IIT and AIEEE. However, now they will need to give just one Entrance Exam (JEE-Main) for securing admission in IIT and other government institutes for professional courses.

Who will conduct JEE-Main

JEE will be conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). According to guidelines set by the Central Government and IIT Council, the first 1.50 lakh students in the JEE-Main exam scorers with above 80 percentile in class 12th board exam will be eligible to give the IIT-Advanced exam, which is mandatory to get admissions in IIT. English, Hindi and Gujarati are the three mediums through which students can appear for the JEE-Main & JEE Advanced exam in Gujarat.

Following the same guidelines as AIEEE, Physics, Chemistry and Maths will be tested in the same paper. The final merit list will be based on  percentile rank of students in 50 : 50 weightage ratio, meaning, equal weightage will be given to HSC (science) final score and the JEE scores. Basis this exam, students will be able to take admission to engineering and pharmacy coures.

The JEE will be conducted on April 7, 2013 and will have a single paper for Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

Students interested in admissions to medical and dental colleges will have to appear for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
