Delhi University (DU) will give an opportunity to 20 undergraduate students to tailor their own course by choosing subjects of their own choice from a plethora of courses as it prepares to start India’s first “meta college”.
According to a top official of the Human Resource Development Ministry, this “trans-disciplinary undergraduate course” will be of four years duration & will be offered to only a “limited number of candidates” for the academic year, 2012-13.
The proposed meta college will let all the Delhi University colleges to collaborate & allow students to customise their own programmes based on their interests.
For instance, you could attend English lectures at Lady Sri Ram College (LSR) & also enrol for the Economics course at St. Stephen’s College. Or you could combine your Geography classes at Kirori Mal College with Mathematics from Hindu College.
This plan was presented by Delhi University’s Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh to the Human Resource Development minister, Kapil Sibal, on Saturday.
This project is part of the HRD ministry’s larger plan to launch a Meta University which will comprise of Delhi University, IIT Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) & Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University.
DU’s meta college will start with a small batch of 20 students. Interested candidates will have to appear for an entrance test.
