The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is important for engineering and science students as it tests their comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects.

GATE score is used for admission to ME/M.Tech courses in various institutes as well as for recruitment in various PSUs.

Though GATE is considered to be one of the toughest exams in India, a better performance can be achieved by overcoming the weak areas and avoiding minor mistakes during the preparation.

Here are some tips that will definitely help students overcome these difficulties and perform better in GATE.

1.Start early:

While preparing for GATE, you should maintain upward growing graph of your performance right from the start. Starting the preparation early, in third year of Engineering , will help you analyze your concepts clarity and give you time to work your weaker areas much before the GATE exam.

2. Mock tests:

Take up a mock test series as it will help you  to get acquainted with the online exam pattern and will also provide you exam analysis  based on which a strategy can be framed to overcome the weak areas.

3. Familiarize with formulae:

Engineering subjects have a lot of formulae, which are difficult to memorise. Easy way to remember these are to note down all formulae as and when you finish each topic and refer them while attempting the tests.

4. Avoid calculation Errors:

As mentioned above mock tests helps you analyse your GATE preparation you can also check are you making simple calculation errors during the test, in such cases practice becomes important because a small mistake can turn into a big loss in GATE because of negative marking.

5. Regular practice:

It is the only key to improve your weak concepts by solving many previous year GATE questions and top in the exam. Try practicing on a regular basis. Last few weeks can be termed as 'Revision Weeks' , in which, whatever you have studied should only be revised. You should not start a new topic in last few weeks because it will  make you lose confidence and break your flow of revision time.
