DU College of the Day Series : Miranda House

Miranda House is a renowned college for women in the University of Delhi located in the ‘North Campus’. The college was founded by Sir Maurice Gwyer, the then Vice-Chancellor in the year 1948. The college is known for maintaining high academic standards and providing quality education to girls.

The college offers courses in the Science and the Humanities Streams. Apart from this, there are also short-term, add-on and certificate level courses across various disciplines.

The infrastructure of the college includes a hostel, an auditorium, a seminar room, up-to-date laboratories and a placement cell. The building of the college is declared as a heritage building. Sports Facilities are there in the college for sports such as Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Chess, Tennis, Table-tennis etc. These sports   promote the development of the individual by inculcating important skills such as team building and leadership.

There are also numerous activities and societies in the college that help in the development of skills among women. Some of the most famous are ARIELS (English Dramatics Society), GEETANJALI (Indian Music Society), TANZ (Western Dance Society) and JIGYASA (Quizzing Society).

The students and Alumni of the college are called Mirandians. The most famous ones are Mira Nair (Film-maker), Shiela Dikshit (Former CM of Delhi), Urvashi Butalia (Feminist and Historian) and Nandita Das (Actress).
