Students appearing for CBSE board exams may soon get to see their answer sheets online. The human resource development ministry is considering this following the Supreme Court's direction to provide copies of answer sheets under the Right to Information Act.

A ministry official said the government won't be seeking a review of the court order but will instead ask the Central Board for Secondary Education to study technological options to provide answer sheets online.Over 16 lakh students appeared for the CBSE's class X and XII exams this year. Despite the big number, the ministry believes providing answer sheets online is possible as it has been done in the case of the IIT-JEE exam, which saw five lakh candidates.

This month, HRD minister Kapil Sibal launched a pilot project to make marksheets issued by various boards accessible online. "We can have a similar project for answer sheets," a ministry functionary said.
Some state education boards already follow this practice.
