Jaganath University of Bangladesh signed an MOU Agreement/ education exchange bill  with Assam University, Silchar on 24 January, 2012.  Assam University was represented by the vice- chancellor Prof. Taphodir Battacharjee, whereas Jaganath University was represented by vice- chancellor, Prof. Meshbah Uddin Ahmed.

Prof. Meshbah Uddin Ahmed exclaimed that this was the first time that Jaganath University had tied up with an internal university and hoped that new era will come in the field of higher education and research for both the countries. He went on to say that in 2005, Jaganath University gained the status of a University from a college and at present, it has 28 departments and more than 23,000 students in the university. He concluded the address appreciating the activities of Assam University which is doing an important role in the field of education, social and cultural exchange with both the countries.

Representing Assam University, Prof. Taphodhir Bhattacharjee proclaimed that Assam University has already signed up with 4 other universities from Bangladesh, Jaganath University being the fifth one. With this collaboration, both universities can indulge in research, use and exchange their equipments as well as other facilities as part of the joint venture. In addition, both the university’s teachers and students can visit the universities for study purposes and share their experiences and organize seminar and workshop also. He also informed that assistant Prof. Subhodip Roy Choudhory and Prof. P.C. Bhattacharjee from the Life Science department will go to Jaganath University for research in the following months.

An international conference on “Exploring sub-regional co-operation in the context of India-Bangladesh Relations: Society, History, Science and Culture” was also conducted during this event. Other events that marked this occasion included a cultural ceremony which was graced by popular singers from both Bangladesh & Assam like Janat-E-Firdous and Debashish Bepari etc. In addition, students from both universities took to the stage and presented their art and culture.
