Assam University Celebrates 19th Anniversary in 2012

On 21 January, 2012, the Assam University celebrated its 19th anniversary in the field of education. On this occasion, the director of NACC, Dr. H.A. Rangnathan was invited to be a keynote speaker. Besides him, Dr. Meshbahuddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of Jaganath University, Bangladesh and Dr. Radhavolab Tripatti, vice- chancellor of Central University from Delhi were present as special guests of honour. Assam University signed Educational Exchange Bill with both the universities at this occasion as well.

The anniversary celebrations began with a Book Fair which was inaugurated by honourable guest Dr. Muntasir uddin khan mamun from Bangladesh. The fair housed more than 25 book stalls. Various publication houses from Kolkata, Agartala and Guwahati etc displayed their books during this fair. In the evening, a cultural programme was organized at Bipin Chandra Memorial Hall within the university campus. The star performer of the evening was Janat-e- Firdous, a famous singer from Bangladesh.

January 22 onwards, a three day group discussion will conducted on the topic of Indo-Bangla (India-Bangladesh) Relations to commemorate the event. Many professors, researchers and students from various colleges and universities will participate in the discussion, both from India as well as Dhaka University, Chattogram University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

Other events that will mark the anniversary celebrations include gold medal distribution to toppers of Assam University, inauguration of new building, inauguration of non-formal Sanskrit study centre, display of rare journals, sky gazing at night with of telescope etc.
