5th edition of Chorus: a techno cultural fest of Sharda University

February 21, 2014 marked the beginning of the 5th edition of Chorus- a techno cultural fest of Sharda University.

This year’s chorus theme is similar to the previous one “Global oneness”. It’s an effort by the University to bring the people from different caste, creed, sex, religion, ethnicity under one hood. However it has failed to implement the same on a regular basis throughout the year. A Major clash between Indian and Afghani Students in May 2013 on a trifle issue which forced the University shutdown for 1 week was a burning example of it. No one can ever forget the chaos in 2nd edition of Chorus i.e. Chorus 2011 when Baton was Charged by the police on helpless/Innocent students of Sharda University on account of misconduct of Locals/Mis Management of Sharda Administration. Veteran Singer Mr. Sonu Nigam was forced to leave his performance due to this. Who were at the losing side? The answer is simple “the students, who had paid for it”

Students are charged a hefty amount of Rs 900 per student (Just Imagine –Strength of 20,000 Student in university, multiplied by Rs 500 each , equals to 1 crore 80 lakhs) in addition to the sponsorships provided by private companies plus the rent of the stalls. What is over all Revenue generation by this Fest? University says it is the fest for the students, by the students, of the students. But reality is quite disturbing and opposite or can say Vice versa. Only the management of Sharda University which includes (Dean, V.C, HOD, and Faculty, other university staff and their members and friends) enjoys the VIP status. It is the hard earned money of student’s parent’s pockets on which they enjoy Mock tails and some time cock tails even in the closed premises. All the prominent persons have a special sitting lounge for them in front of the centre stage where the main event takes place. Poor students are forced to stand at 70 Meters away from the main stand whereas the prominent persons enjoy the beauty of close proximity. This prominent personality includes the student coordinators of Chorus too. All the rules are applied for the helpless students, but none of them is applicable to student coordinators. A student can’t get entry in college without ID card but none of chorus admin bother to know how the relatives, friends and other having connection with chorus coordinators are getting entry passes. This only had resulted Chaos in 2nd edition of chorus.

Why is the university having such ill fated attitude towards the student of Sharda University? It is student’s money which they are utilizing for Chorus and even then they are giving them a backstage or rather a third grade treatment. A more recent example of it was seen when all the students of Sharda University were charged Rs 1000/- per head in addition to tuition fees on the name of sports development charge for the 2013-14 academic calendar.

There is no estimate of utilizing this money, no improvement in sports arena.

Still there is a ray of hope that aftermath of this fest will wash away all the ill fated experiences faced by the students and will lead to a better environment within the campus.
